The Many Faces of PT: Why We Love What We Do
By Carina Mahserejian PT, DPT & Jose Alaniz PT, DPT
One of the most rewarding aspects of working at PerformaX Physical Therapy is the opportunity to help people with such a wide range of conditions and goals. While our clinic specializes in outpatient orthopedics, such as post surgical rehabilitation, joint pain, and sports injuries, we are also privileged to work with patients navigating neurological conditions. The diversity of cases we encounter keeps our work dynamic, purposeful, and deeply fulfilling.
As an orthopedic clinic, we frequently guide patients through recovery after surgery. It is incredibly moving to witness someone go from needing assistance to walk or bend their knee, to jogging, jumping, and moving with confidence as if they were never injured. Seeing their proud smiles and hearing them say, “It feels better, stronger!” reminds us exactly why we chose this profession.
With the right physical therapist guiding and coaching you, it is possible to return to the activities you enWe are also honored to work with individuals living with Parkinson’s disease, a group that holds a special place in many of our hearts. For some of us, our journey into physical therapy began after watching loved ones receive the kind of care that helped them stay mobile and independent despite their diagnosis. Today, we have the chance to be on the other side, offering not just therapy, but compassion, education, and encouragement.
Physical therapy offers incredible variety, not only in the diagnoses we treat, but also in the people we meet and the lives we impact. Whether we are helping someone recover from surgery, manage a neurological condition, or simply return to the activities they love, we have the privilege of making a difference every single day.
This Physical Therapy Month, we celebrate not only the power of PT, but also the people behind it; our patients, our teammates, and the profession we are proud to be a part of.

Happy Birthday, Mariana!
Please join us in wishing our PT Aide Mariana a very happy birthday this month!

Why Should I Choose Physical Therapy?
There are several reasons to choose physical therapy over costly surgeries and medications. Physical therapy has been shown to not only help resolve pain and improve function, but it is also effective at enhancing your overall health and well-being.
One of the most significant benefits of physical therapy is that it can uncover the underlying reasons for your injuries and/or pain. Some of the impairments your physical therapist can help you correct include:
- Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors (i.e., poor sleep habits, improper nutrition, lack of exercise, etc.).
- Loss of motion
- Weakness
- Poor posture and faulty movement patterns
- Gait abnormalities
- Loss of balance
- Coordination deficits
- Neurological impairment
Celebrating National Physical Therapy Month!
October is National Physical Therapy Month, and there’s no better time to highlight the incredible stories of our patients. At PerformaX Elite, we’re proud to help people move better, feel stronger, and achieve their goals every day. Here’s what some of our amazing patients have to say about their journeys with us.
“I have the best therapist! Getting an appointment was easy and the team there is very knowledgeable! My therapist knows how to explain my exercises clearly and makes sure I understand what to do so I can’t injure myself. I started feeling better after my 2nd visit!” -S.K.
“Cannot sing the praises any louder for the staff at PerformaX. I interviewed six PT facilities for rehab on my total knee replacement in June. I knew immediately PerformaX was to be my rehab home for the next few months. Everyone is fantastic, knowledgeable, professional, and exhibits great care. Chris Robles has been my rehab Sherpa, managing my expectations, guiding me, providing honest feedback and boosting confidence at every session. I recommend PerformaX for anyone that wants results – with honest conversation that helps you understand the commitment and process to get the job done.” -C.C.
“The team at Performax is wonderful all around. They listen, are knowledgeable, kind, respectful, and personable. I’d like to give a special shout-out to Dr. Alex Luu and his assistant, Jason. Between them, I went from living in constant pain (in April) to feeling back to normal (in August). I’m incredibly grateful for all of their help and support.” -S.M.
“This was my first experience with physical therapy as well. I had very painful bursitis in both hips that kept me from sleeping at night or finding any way to get comfortable. Alex and his team worked their magic on me, and after six weeks, the bursitis was gone. The team was caring and attentive and genuinely happy to help me and see my progress. I want to thank Alex, Anna, Jeremy, and Andrew for your guidance and care; it was a great experience and I will recommend your services anytime! All the best to you all.” -C.K.C

4 Benefits of Physical Therapy
A physical therapist can educate you about ways to move safer, use your energy more efficiently, reduce the risk of re-injury, and enhance the overall effects of your care. The benefits of physical therapy treatments include easing pain, reducing spasms, increasing circulation, and promoting healing.
- Physical therapy can help improve your joint range of motion and overall mobility: Our ability to move depends on how individual joints move and how the body’s joints move in concert with one another. Increasing joint range of motion and mobility of the connective tissues around your joints (including the tendons, muscles, fascia, and joint capsules) will help your joints feel better and move better. This will also help you improve overall functional mobility and activity tolerance, essential for work, leisure, and simple daily functions.
- Physical therapy can help strengthen weaknesses and compensation patterns: Through injury or surgery, muscles become weak and impact your ability to move and function normally. For some, an old injury or abnormal movement pattern has led to weakness due to compensations. Physical therapists are skilled at assessing the whole body, identifying weaknesses, and teaching how to restore strength and function.
- Physical therapy can improve your overall health and well-being: When you see a physical therapist for pain and injuries, you will receive rehabilitation benefits to resolve the condition and a total body approach to health. Physical therapists can recommend nutrition to improve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve overall health. In addition, physical therapists are movement experts and trained to help you move/exercise more, no matter your limitations or restrictions. More activity equals improved health!
- Physical therapy can help you reduce the risk of injury: By implementing a holistic approach, we can improve and restore your function and prevent injuries. This may include all components of typical physical therapy and include gait modifications and coordination exercises to stimulate the nervous system and help ensure your mechanics are ideal to avoid an injury.
