Dr. Jeanna M. Barsamian, PT, DPT, OCS, ATC, CSCS
Clinical Director of Therapy

Jeanna’s love for sports and science as a teenager motivated her to volunteer and take after school classes at her local hospital while in high school. At 18, she sustained an ACL injury and underwent physical therapy, then went on to play competitive college volleyball, basketball and crew. This experience solidified her passion for physical therapy and led her to earn a BS magna cum laude in Athletic Training from Northeastern University in 1998, then a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from USC in 2003. Along the way, she earned certifications as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach as well as an American Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and Clinical Instruction for physical therapy students.

Through her years of treating patients in the outpatient orthopedic setting and also part-time in the home care setting, Jeanna’s treatment styles and beliefs have evolved through researching evidence-based medicine as well as by enrolling in numerous continuing education courses each year. She focuses on functional and sports-specific training through motor control, muscle re-education, functional manual therapy, functional strengthening and pain science theories in order to achieve the most optimal outcomes for her patients.

Jeanna also empowers her patients to take control of their health through habit and lifestyle changes, nutrition, stress management and sleep hygiene. In 2019, at age 46, she began a path down a fitness journey which resulted in dropping 4 sizes, running her first 5k and Spartan Race, completing a half marathon, winning first place in a 10-week fitness challenge and completing 2 SoCal 6 Pack of Peaks Challenges. Utilizing all her physical therapy knowledge that she had imparted onto her patients over the years, she overcame all her injuries.

Jeanna has focused her career on enhancing the quality of life for her clients as well as mentoring physical therapy students and aides. Her strengths lie in strong communication skills, education, attention to detail and movement analysis, as well as focusing on the entire body for a holistic approach. She has served as an expert clinician, leader, manager and mentor for several years, as well as developing strong rehab teams while improving efficiencies and faster patient outcomes. Jeanna was recognized by USC for her passion and dedication in mentoring physical therapy students and awarded “Clinical Educator of the Year.” She currently stays active with hiking, weight training, kayaking, and traveling, and is currently studying nutrition in order to better teach her clients how the foods we eat affect our performance and healing process. She also maintains the Therapy Dog training certifications for RoRo, her 10 pound Maltese, who accompanies her in the clinic every day to bring smiles to her clients and staff. Her favorite catch phrases are “motion is lotion”, “you can’t go wrong being strong”, and “use it or lose it.” Jeanna truly believes that we create our own barriers to success and that we can do anything we set our minds to, even overcoming chronic pain.
